Unlike commercial products for the Mac like Virtual PC, getting Basilisk II up and running is a bit of a project. Hoffman's manual is a big help here, The first step is getting access to a genuine Mac ROMs - either on a permanent basis, installed into SoftMac's hardware card, or long enough to capture to a disk image file.

BasiliskII is a WIP emulator port to the PS VIta / PlayStation TV by developer meetpatty, this release is a 68k Macintosh emulator (Mac Classic or a Mac II emu). The port is based on the work that Chilly Willy did on the PSP port but this releases come in the way of a vpk installable for HENkaku user's (on fw 3.60). Included is information about the port it-self and also Vita Specif Information that the dev has provided in this Work In Progress initial release of this new emulator keeping more Retro System & Platforms alive with the power of emulation

    How to install
    • Install BasiliskII.vpk in the usual way
    • Create folder in ux0:/data/BasiliskII
    • Follow psp installation guide except folders/files should go into ux0:/data/BasiliskII
    • ie rom into ux0:/data/BasiliskII/roms, disk images into ux0:/data/BasiliskII/disks
    • Modify BasiliskII_prefs from psp Basilisk release. Modify paths to rom and disk images as appropriate
    • Change screen to one of the supported resolutions Note only 8 bit depth is supported screen 726/544/8
    • Copy BasiliskII_prefs to ux0:/data/BasiliskII
    Additional Notes
    • Only tested with OS 7.5.5, modelid 5 and cpu 3

    Basilisk II is an Open Source 68k Macintosh emulator. That is, it enables you to run 68k MacOS software on you computer, even if you are using a different operating system. However, you still need a copy of MacOS and a Macintosh ROM image to use Basilisk II.
    Basilisk II has currently been ported to the following systems:
    • BeOS R4 (PowerPC and x86)
    • Unix (tested under Linux, Solaris 2.x, FreeBSD 3.x, NetBSD 1.4.x and
    • IRIX 6.5)
    • AmigaOS 3.x
    • Windows NT 4.0 (mostly works under Windows 95/98, too)
    • Mac OS X 10.1 thru 10.4
    Some features of Basilisk II:
    • Emulates either a Mac Classic (which runs MacOS 0.x thru 7.5) or a Mac II series machine (which runs MacOS 7.x, 8.0 and 8.1), depending on the ROM being used

    • CD quality sound output
    • Floppy disk driver (only 1.44MB disks supported)
    • Driver for HFS partitions and hardfiles
    • CD-ROM driver with basic audio functions
    • Easy file exchange with the host OS via a 'Host Directory Tree' icon on the Mac desktop
