Posted by Michael Renock on 12 February 2014 09:21 AMThis setup guide will assist you in getting your to work in Savance Enterprise using a CDC Virtual Com Port or serial connection. Simply follow along and scan the barcodes on your monitor's screen when required. If you are having trouble scanning your screen, you may need to print this guide and scan from the paper instead. You can also download the in PDF format for your reference. It contains setup information, as well as all the different configuration barcodes available for this model. First, you need to connect the barcode scanner to a power source.

Once powered, you will be able to scan. Next, you will want to set the barcode scanner to factory defaults.

In order to do this, simply scan the following barcode. The scanner and base need to both be set into CDC Virtual COM Port mode (unless you are using a serial connection). Scan the following barcode to do so. Now, the barcode scanner needs to be configured to add a carriage return after a scan. This is required in Savance Enterprise.

Scan the following 3 barcodes to set this. Now you are ready to plug the barcode scanner into the PC or POS terminal. If you are using a serial connection, no device drivers are necessary. If you will be using a USB connection, then USB CDC Virtual COM Port drivers are required on the PC or POS terminal.

Please download and install the appropriate driver from one of the links below. Here is the official web page from where these drivers were obtained. If you are experiencing any trouble with setting the factory defaults, setting the scanner and base into CDC Virtual COM Port mode, configuring the carriage return, or getting your PC or POS terminal to recognize the barcode scanner, there is an easy-to-use PC-based software tool called that can further assist you with this setup. You may need to upgrade the upgrade the device's firmware as well, which this tool will allow you to do. Download and install the appropriate version, if necessary. Now you are ready to configure the barcode scanners to work with Savance Enterprise. Please refer to the following training video to complete this setup.

Tradepoint Enterprise requires that your bar code scanner(reader) either be OPOS compliant or that it sends a 'prefix' and a'suffix' that wrap the barcode that is sent by the scanner so that Tradepointknows when you're just typing and when you're entering a barcode when yourscanner is setup as a 'keyboard wedge'. (the default for most scanners) (i.e.BarCode)Please note that while OPOS is the prefered method of configuring yourbarcode scanner, many scanners either do not have drivers, or the drivers arevery buggy and will result in failed scans. At this time, the easiest method isto configure Tradepoint to use a specific set of characters for the prefix andsuffix.

Setup Your ScannerThe first step is to setup your bar code reader. The attached document andthe instructions below reference a Symbol 2702 barcode scanner who's symbologyis very standard. Many other scanners use this exact symbology so that you canconfigure your scanner. However if your scanner does not support this symbology,the principle is the same, you will simply have to look up the appropriatemethodology to accomplish the same.

You will need the full manual for yourscanner to accomplish this task:. Find the bar code for 'Set All Defaults' and scan it. Find the 'Disabled All Rule Sets' code and scan it. (Your scannerwill be 100% in factory default mode at this time). Find the 'Begin New Rule' code and scan it.

Find the 'Send Control + ' code and scan it. Find the 'Send All Data That Remains' code and scan it. Find the 'Send Control + ' code and scan it. Find the 'Save Rule' code and scan it.You should get the positive beep from your scanner indicating that it hasbeen properly configured.

Setup Tradepoint EnterpriseThe next step is to configure Tradepoint Enterprise:. Login as an adminitrator. Click on the Tools Tab. Click on Terminal Settings.

Click on Point of Sale. Under Bar code reader, choose 'Control' for the bar codeas the prefixand as the suffix as per the screen shot below. Click save.
